Western Power Distribution

We recently completed a project for Western Power Distribution that required our team to carry out rock drilling and pipe installation. The client needed our team to drill through 60 metres of mudstone and 93 metres of weak dark brown mottling clay so that a 4 x 11kv cable reinforcement could be installed. Our team gladly took on the project, and after an initial consultation with the client, set out a plan of action to complete the work to a high standard.

The Challenges

This project was to be delivered to the client on a turnkey contract, so our staff needed to set everything in place for the client to act upon at their convenience. Such a contract posed a challenge as our team needed to ensure that all of the specifics were carefully put in place for client convenience. Each aspect of the proposed drilling and installation needed to be meticulously planned out with all the necessary surveys and equipment required decided upon in advance.

Our team needed to outline the best method by which to drill through the mudstone and mottling clay. It was important to come up with a process that would be quick and effective, which involved us needing to recommend and provide suitable equipment. We also needed to decide upon the best method of having the pipes installed and settle on the best type of horizontal direction drilling technology for the project.
